another brief conversation

Outside, heavy sleet & rain. Us in the car. The conversation went like this:
Me: I want to get Ash some rain slicker boots. And me, too.
B: What are rain slicker boots?
Me: You know, rain boots.
B: No.
Me: Rubber boots that you walk around outside in the rain.
B: Never heard of them.
Me: Yes, you have.
B: No.
Me: You had them when you were a kid. Yellow galoshes.
B: Oh, why didn't you say so. Galoshes.
[He turns the windshield wipers on full]
B:Why do you need 'em?
